Raised in Stockton, California, Nakia‘s love of the performing arts began at an early age. While attending high school, Nakia auditioned for UCLA’s prestigious theater department and out of 50 applicants, was the only African American female freshman accepted that year. She booked her first role as a series regular on the hit kids’ TV show Power Rangers Zeo, as the Yellow Power Ranger Tanya Sloan for 75 episodes and a feature film. She has also starred in numerous commercials, print ads, and television shows throughout her 25+ year career.

 

In 2015, she created, co-wrote, and produced 2 seasons of the single-camera comedy, Life After Saving the World, loosely based on her life. This series won the Empire Award in the New York Screenplay Contest and placed in the LAIFFA television and film festival.

 

In 2020, she co-created and continues to produce content for her YouTube channel, Power Rangers Playback. The channel has over 1 million views and 20K subscribers.

 

In 2023, Nakia’s web series Class Dismissed was bought and turned into a feature film. It is now airing on Peacock, Amazon, and Tubi. She also produced an inspirational feature comedy, Back to Bridgewood which won best comedy in the Beaufort International Film Festival.

 

Nakia aims to create, write, and produce amazing, character-driven series and movies for everyone to enjoy.
